Choosing Designers to Fit Your Vibe (And Your Budget)

When spending so much on outfits we wanted to make sure we were working with the right designers to create timeless pieces we could use again | August 29, 2023 | 5 minute read

Although it might be hard to believe with 4 days of main events - Rohan & I really tried our best to plan our grand wedding within a reasonable budget, and keep in mind ways we could repurpose the things we were going to spend a more significant amount on - like our outfits!

Keeping this in mind we carefully chose custom designers we ‘vibed with’ (as the youngins would say) who had visions we loved, and who took into account our inputs & wishes to create ‘timeless’ pieces we could re-wear in the future!

THE NEW DELHI COMPANY

From the get go I knew I wanted a red-on-red lengha, and one that was not extremely heavy or covered entirely in gold. My wish was also to find a classy piece that I could rewear somehow without it being plainly evident that the red pieces were from a bridal look.

I had always been a fan of the regal Indian bridal looks that The New Delhi Company was known for. After thoroughly looking through the GTA at various different South Asian retailers for my Hindu Ceremony Lengha, I couldn’t get this one entirely lace piece from New Delhi out of my mind. Although it was originally a white lengha, my incredible stylist Navi (Navjot) of The New Delhi Company helped to recreate the piece in a royal red that complimented me best, complete with a new pearl trim & a unique dupatta with a gold border & accents to add just the right amount of shine I was looking for.

I couldn’t be happier with the mughal-type era Rani look I was told I embodied on my Hindu wedding day! And I plan to rewear my beautiful lace red blouse with a light silk or chiffon sari one day soon enough.

AMARA COUTURE

I came across Amara Couture via a family referral and thought I’d check out their boutique in Etobicoke. Upon my first visit, where I met Nim, the owner & designer - I was sold. She was sweet, creative and kind. We immediately clicked when I shared my vision for a unique reception look with her & she understood exactly what I was hoping for!

We combined one of her beautiful existing bridal lenghas with a ballroom gown look I adored, and together we created my silver reception gown that I was able to dance the night away in, feeling like a million bucks!

Nim also created my much beloved Sangeet outfit - which we based off of a beautiful black  & gold lengha she had previously designed. Together we changed the color scheme to match Rohan’s chosen Kurta suit & created an edgier blouse style with a flowing attached dupatta (aka a cape) as per my dream.

I couldn’t be more grateful I just happened upon Amara Couture & met Nim. I can’t imagine having created my unique wedding looks with anyone else, and can’t wait to wear them again.

LAPEL INC.

Although we researched the options of buying off the rack and/or renting Rohan’s Church & Reception suits and tuxedos - once we met with Nishan of Lapel Inc it was a no-brainer that we should invest in custom suits for Rohan. Nishan came highly recommended by my brother (an unofficial Lapel spokesperson who has created a few truly unique looks with Nishan’s help) - so we relied on him to help us choose the right materials and cuts to compliment Rohan best.

Rohan embraced his inner Bruce Wayne while dressed in Lapel Inc. at our wedding, and has been proudly able to sport his custom suits at various events since - mixing them up with various different ties and shirt styles such that the look feels fresh every time.

Additional Outfits (non-custom):

  • My white wedding gown was purchased a the wonderful Mona Ritchie Boutique in Vaughn

  • Rohan’s Sangeet & Hindu Ceremony Kurta looks were from House of Kalra

  • Other suits I wore during pre/post events were from Chandan Fashion
